1st Family Dental of Andersonville

I just had the worst cleaning of my life here. The dental hygienist was nice but she was rushing the job. She kept yanking my cheeks, poking my tongue and was skipping around my mouth as she cleaned (she definitely missed some teeth). Afterwards, my mouth didn't feel clean at all. I don't think I'll be back and I wouldn't recommend this place if you want quality service.

My family has been going to this location for almost a decade, and never have I had a billing issue until now. For some reason I have received a two year old bill that I was under the impression was covered under my dental insurance, but apparently it isn't. I have attempted to speak to numerous people in order to rectify the situation since I still go there. I have been continuously ignored. My next step will be to the better business bureau and the attorney general office since it's come to this. Very disappointed. No one should have to go through such lengths to get a bill situated, especially one that's two years old.

My first few appointments at this office where positive. Good cleanings, extra care, friendly and helpful staff. Hence the two stars. But today I left my basic cleaning with the worst quality of cleaning I've ever received from a hygienist. He definitely needs more training or needs to experience a cleaning himself as a patient. He was rude and didn't seem to understand basic communications or process. Combative at a dentist office! I can't even feel the spaces between my teeth like after any other cleaning I've received in my life. Waste of time and money. I will not be returning after my experience with AB (or whatever he said his name is).

I just walked out. The dental hygienist was kind but during my cleaning the energy in the room got weird. She was saying something about my enamel chipping away because of childhood development...When I looked at my teeth, there was a chip on the front of one of my teeth. The dentist came in and immediately said he would fix it but that it looks like it was already there from the X-rays.... After fixing it, they put a consent form in front of me. As I was reading over it, I was confused why they would give me a consent form warning of the dangers of the fix AFTER they had done the fix. The dentist snapped "I'm doing you a favor" (because he wasn't charging for the fix). At that point I was 120% sure that the chip had in fact happened in the office. I understand wanting to mitigate your liability but don't try to make fools out of your patients. I would have respected honesty and accountability much more. I will absolutely be reporting this to my insurance. Extremely sketchy!

I’ve been going to 1st Family Dental for a little under 3 years now. I used to be TERRIFIED of the dentist and when I first started as a patient there, hadn’t been for a cleaning or check up in nearly 7 years. Dr. Velano always makes me feel so comfortable and relaxed, and is NEVER judgmental. I also just recently had all four of my wisdom teeth removed by their oral surgeon on staff, Dr. Hur, which was another fantastic experience. I was extremely nervous for the surgery as I have never been put under before but Dr. Hur and his team were extremely reassuring and made the entire thing an absolute breeze. I couldn’t imagine going anywhere else for my dental care and still continue to return even after moving from Andersonville to Logan Square. It is every bit worth the 30 minute drive :)
