From the business

LA Times: "Amir's falafel is tucked away in one of a thousand unassuming shopping centers along Ventura Boulevard in Studio City, only this one happens to be special. The falafel at Amir's are actually shaped like small balls, golden brown in color and flecked with tiny, pale sesame seeds. The balls are smaller than most, and the light, crisp texture of each one is addictive. They are perfect with a plate full of Amir's signature side dishes or stuffed in a sandwich with plenty of pickles. The Moroccan carrots at this place are also a must. The falafel plate comes with falafel and five different salads." (2013) Thrillist: "These falafel wizards absolutely crush it at everything they do. The falafel & shawarma are as nutso as the salads (with hummus that could stand up to any restaurant in the whole city), and their house-made hot sauce will haunt your dreams for eternity. In a good way." (2016) Eating LA: "…the falafel is the piece de resistance: freshly made, soft and pillowy, stuffed into a fresh pita with cabbage and tahini sauce." (2007)

Established in 1982.

In 1929, Chaim and Noami Amir emigrated to Jerusalem and opened one of the first falafel restaurants in the city. They altered the traditional Egyptian recipe by using chick peas instead of fava beans. It was a hit! After years of success, they retired and their son, Judah, took over the business. In 1965, he opened a second location and a third 8 years later. In 1982, with their 3 children, Judah and his wife, Frida Amir, immigrated to America to chase the American dream. Two months later, Judah opened a restaurant on the corner of Ventura Place and Ventura Blvd. Nobody knew what falafel was at that time, so he started off selling burgers and fries and slowly introduced falafel to his patrons. The food caught on and, after a couple years, they moved to the Sherman Oaks Galleria's food court and by 1987 opened a second location on the corner of Ventura Blvd and Colfax Ave. This location is where Amir's Falafel has been ever since.
