a month agoI found myself with a very unusual medical need. A very competent shoulder surgeon was helping me. Part of his competency came in the form of the realization that while he was very capable of addressing the next stage of my treatment, he had the wisdom to refer me to Mass General and Doctor Bassem Elhassan. Dr. Elhassan's personal presentation reflects a very bright, creative, and unique person. Dr. Elhassan used this creativity to craft a perfectly functioning restored shoulder built well beyond my greatest hope or expectation. I had experienced 4 previous surgeries on this arm and a severe infection that required a PIC line. I was scared and in pain when I first met Dr Elhassan. He immediately made me feel safe and I knew I would be ok. I cannot say enough about the piece of mind he has given me. My physical and aqua therapists have expressed their amazement at how far I have progressed in such a short period of time. I honestly think that Dr. Elhassan should be very proud of what he did for me. I remain grateful beyond what words I might express. The hug I receive and give comes from a place of mutual respect and care. I am eternally grateful to him Corinne White

3 weeks agoAfter 2 years of no answers or real help from anyone in the medical field while in the military, I was referred to Dr. Elhassan. From the first day I met him he figured out exactly what was wrong with my shoulder (seriously spot on) within a minute. Then told me what surgery I needed and from there the rest is history. I am 2 and a half weeks post surgery and the recovery pains are already way easier than the pain I have had to deal with the last 2 years. Excited for this full recovery. I would 100% recommend him to anyone that needs help and wants it done right. I came over from NY and was totally worth it.

a month agoWhat started off as a simple rotator cuff tear lead to 2 rotator cuff surgeries, a reverse total shoulder replacement, and 4 years of horrible pain. Every doctor I saw offered no solution other than pain management and any kind of medication I may have wanted. One doctor even went so far to say that he did everything right and didnโt know what was wrong with me. After traveling from Pennsylvania to Boston and spending 30 minutes with Dr. Elhassan he not only diagnosed the problem but also offered me a treatment plan. Unfortunately, my body had been rejecting the implant and did severe damage to my shoulder. Dr. Elhassan removed the implant and did a complicated shoulder fusion. After living with such excruciating pain for four years I can happily state that I am pain free. Dr. Elhassan has literally saved my life. Because of him, I now have a future. I will be eternally grateful to him and the care he has given me.

3 months agoFrom start to finish, Dr Elhassan and his staff were pure perfection! Bassem was amazing each and every time my husband Mark saw him. We love everything about him. Heโs funny, serious and professional but most of all he knows brachial plexus nerve injuryโs of the shoulder. He projected 100% confidence in repairing and rehabbing Marks shoulder. We always felt like we were family. We highly recommend Dr Elhassan to anyone! Mark and Nancy

5 months agoI simply do not have enough superlatives to adequately describe my pleasure with every single aspect of my treatment. Dr. Elhassan has restored not only my shoulder function, but also my sense of self. I HATED feeling โbrokenโ, and I was devastated to find out I was too atrophied for standard rotator cuff surgery. I was fortunate that my previous doctor knew of Dr. Elhassan. My โunfixableโ left shoulder is now restored to almost 90% of where I was before my injury. It is amazing; I can once again do everything I desire, from gardening to housework to working out. I can do a plank again!! The entire team that works with Dr. Elhassan is fantastic and caring. This was not an easy recovery, but this was a complicated injury. I have zero regrets and would recommend this doctor and his amazing team to anyone. Please do yourself a favor and get yourself to this clinic. You will get your life back. I did.
