Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital is a nationally ranked, 1131 bed non-profit, acute care teaching hospital located in Royal Oak, Michigan, providing tertiary care and healthcare services to the Royal Oak region and Metro Detroit.
If you or a loved one ends up under the care of Dr. Thomas D. Kim at Corewell Health Royal Oak or Troy, I highly recommend requesting a different physician.
Dr.Kim lacks compassion, empathy, and the ability to listen to family members acting as patient advocates.
Corewell Health and Dr. Kim failed our family by refusing to admit our elderly loved one, despite ample family care and support. The circumstances and medical history clearly warranted admission. We requested admission to control the rehabilitation process and ensure a smooth recovery. Dr. Kim disregarded these wishes and discharged her as quickly as possible, even though she was a 90-year-old patient with a long history of care at Beaumont Hospital. He seemed more concerned with discharging her than with providing quality care.
A few months later, Dr. Kim was again involved in our family member's care. He continued to demonstrate a lack of compassion and disregard for our family's wishes. When our loved one needed urgent care late at night, Dr. Kim, who was on call, failed to provide adequate assistance due to inconvenience.
Furthermore, Dr. Kim overstepped his boundaries by interfering in our family's plans to have a family meeting and discussing the next steps for care. He didnโt show an ounce of respect and only showed how impatient he is with his overall care.
I strongly advise against choosing Dr. Thomas D. Kim as your physician. I hope this review helps you avoid the mistakes we made by entrusting our loved one's care to him. Given his apparent lack of empathy and disregard for patient well-being, he may not be suited for the medical profession.
I had to bring my mom here per her doctorโs orders we got here at 4pm yesterday. They told us she was being admitted around 10:30 but is still in the emergency department. They moved her to another room to wait for someone to be able to transport her to her room. This room is filthy and sheโs been in here for over 3 hours now. I really wish this hospital would do better. They used to be one of the best ones to go to.
This hospital has gone down tremendously!!! Nurses do not care. They walk around gossiping and playing in their cell phones. The doctors are not well informed at least some are not. Emergency is overfilled and people are waiting and donโt know why they are waiting. I waited three and a half hours to be discharged after the doctors did an x ray and gave me discharge instructions just to make us wait even longer. Then they look at you negatively because they know they are being slow. There is no more urgency when it comes to health care anymore. Nurse are new and young and are only in it for the overtime checks.NEVER AGAIN!!! Iโd rather go to providence where I know care wonโt be urgent. Beaumont has gone down!!!!!!
Beware before you have an emergency. You may be better off at an urgent care. I have been in this hospital for a total of 6 hours. There must be some type of system where they get paid for how long your here then when theyโre ready to kick you out they just starlight up kick you out. This is ridiculous!!!!
I recently had a deeply concerning experience at Corewell Farmington Hills and Royal Oak campuses while supporting my spouse, who is a nurse. Our time there, starting at 5 AM Wednesday morning until later Thursday evening revealed significant issues with professionalism across the system.
While some staff members displayed competence and care, the overall atmosphere was marred by a pervasive lack of professionalism. For instance, during shift changes, incoming nurses and doctors failed to introduce themselves, which is a basic yet crucial aspect of patient care. This left us feeling disoriented and uncertain about who was responsible for my wifeโs care.
Moreover, as a family member, I felt entirely invisible. There was little to no acknowledgment of my presence or involvement in my spouseโs care. Healthcare is a collaborative effort, and family support is vital; being treated as a stranger in the room was not only disheartening but also unprofessional.
This experience raised broader concerns about the culture within the Corewell system. Effective communication and a welcoming environment are fundamental to patient care, and it seems these aspects are not being prioritized. I hope that Corewell takes this feedback seriously and works to foster a more professional and inclusive atmosphere for patients and their families.
Had a HORRIBLE experience here this week; would highly recommend finding a different hospital or at least visiting a different location.
I have special orders in my chart from my oncologist that the nurse at the CT scan clinic refused to follow. She continuously implied that I was โabusing the systemโ and wasting their time. As a patient, I was anxious for this scan as it checks on whether my cancer has metastasized. The nurse had absolutely no empathy, and if she wouldโve taken more than a second to read my chart perhaps she wouldโve better understood this.
Really disappointed that Corewell Health hires nurses who lack bedside manner like this. Cancer is difficult enough as it is and aggressive staff members like this only make the experience harder.
