2 months agoThe care has been surprisingly good. All doctors responded to 92 year old dad's need with care. All scheduled appointments were on time. No waiting and al multiple doctors displayed patience. ----**(negative 2 star) However, denied benefits for compensation in 2018. Re applied in May 2024 with the expedited application the review and rating department. I cannot believe it is now August NOTHING!! NOTHING!! What does expedited mean? Come on he's a 92 year old Korean vet drags left foot from being frozen over there!! Please provide a rating so he can acquire home care needed & and benefits deserved!

3 months ago(0 Stars) This hospital is an absolute disgrace to the VA. I have never experienced a more uneducated, irresponsible, negligent, and careless staff. The only person I can say that seems to care and is still NEW TO THE HOSPITAL is Dr. Sharif. He is very kind and empathetic. My father was almost released into the streets hallucinating saying that family was there to get him and the staff went right with it until I called, having a bad feeling, and informed them he is hallucinating. They allowed my father to sign an ama when he has a medical surrogate. The complete lack of simply reading his chart, knowing who the patient was, and having a pair of eyes is baffling. Unfortunately we are keeping him at the hospital and is in the icu, still hallucinating, and nurses want to tell us heโs not. We have continuously received phone calls proving otherwise. I would never recommend this location to anyone. If I could Iโd report till this place was shut down for medical negligence. Once again, a disgrace of the VA and I pray for any veterans who come to seek help here and that they are not given the same treatment or neglect.

3 months agoMy recent visit to this hospital was through emergency and i thought i could have been treated better. Came in for severe abdominal pain. From the time they took xrays of my stomach, I was left on a bed in a room over 2 and a half hours with no updates or nothing. They did give me something for pain, but eventually that wore off and the nurse said she couldn't give me anymore. I got to the Hospital at 12:20 in the morning. They told me i had a kidney stone about 5:30am. Gave me pain medication one time. It was taking so long that i started to leave, but to start all over at another hospital. It was only one person ahead of me here. Had to stick it out. After i was diagnosed and told tbey were going to keep me, i honestly felt like i was treated like family. So many 'Thank you for your sevice' from the doctors on down to janitorial. From the time i became a inpatient, treated like a saint. So if any advice for emergency, just update patients from time to time. I mean i felt abandoned, and then asking for more pain medication or why is it taking so long didn't seem to be important to all involved, just me. Yea if a patient is waiting long periods, give the courtesy of periodical updates. Other then that, love the hospital.

a year agoI was so happy and relieved leaving this hospital today. I am also extremely disappointed in the amount of poor reviews. Mostly because I listened to them, and I put off coming here when I should have a LONG TIME AGO. I have been separated since 2019 and have some considerable issues due to my military service. Since then (until today) I have tried the civilian route. I have โrealโ insurance. I was practically passed off from clinic to clinic, told my insurance wouldnโt pay for it, the next was full, etc etc etcโฆ. I walk in to this hospital today and I am seen nearly immediately. And not just any type of care. TRUE care. I was here for hours getting things I NEEDED and wanted. Everything I got today would have taken months, multiple appointments, multiple trips, and a LOT of money via the civilian healthcare route. Every person who helped me seemed to truly care. No question or concern seemed silly. They were absolutely so proper and thorough, and far exceeded my expectations. I felt so welcomed and comfortable in a world where that is so few and far between these days. Especially for a young female disabled veteran. This is the care everyone should have access to. Not to mention, the facility was clean, pretty, spacious, open, and safe. I canโt recommend this place to my fellow veterans enough.

3 months agoMy experience with the Detroit VA Medical Center has been deeply disappointing and distressing. I am a patient with PTSD, depression, and anxiety, and I have faced significant issues with the mental health services provided here. Firstly, Dr. Norris has consistently been late to every appointment, providing only short, rushed sessions. She has pushed pills that don't work for me and has shown a general lack of care for my well-being. When I requested a new prescriber, she abruptly terminated our phone conversation by hanging up on me, further undermining my trust in the VA's mental health services. Despite multiple requests, the VA has insisted on phone conversations, which worsen my mental health conditions. I have repeatedly asked for written communication to ensure transparency and clarity, but these requests have been consistently ignored. The unreliable network in my area further complicates phone communication. Unless the VA provides a landline, written communication remains the most effective method. Dr. Norris's actions have been particularly harmful. Refusing to find a new prescriber when asked and hanging up on me is unprofessional and leaves me without proper medical support. Additionally, I am experiencing severe withdrawal symptoms from an antidepressant prescribed and then discontinued by the VA without appropriate tapering. This withdrawal is causing considerable distress and negatively impacting my daily life. Furthermore, I have been subjected to Adderall withdrawal, which has compounded my suffering. Moreover, Dr. Norris has poor reviews on Google, reflecting a pattern of unsatisfactory patient care that aligns with my experiences. I have escalated my concerns to my congressional representatives and the White House hotline, but I have not yet received a satisfactory response. My requests are straightforward: termination of Dr. Norris or care by an external provider, written communication from the VA regarding my treatment, and the ability to record any necessary in-person or phone conversations for accuracy and accountability. It is disheartening that my urgent requests for help during an antidepressant withdrawalโa situation the VA createdโhave not been addressed. I hope this review brings attention to the critical issues at the Detroit VA Medical Center and prompts immediate action.
