The Emergency Room staff is absolutely wonderful. The nurses, residents, and on call doctors are kind, caring, and excellent at their jobs. The nurses take no nonsense from rude patients, but as long as you treat them with kindness and respect, they treat you very well. I received pain medication, diagnostic, testing, and everything else I needed in a timely manner, considering how busy they were.
Once I was finally admitted when they had a bed for me upstairs, the nurses who took care of me were amazing. They were so sweet, smart, and prompt with anything I needed. They provided a nice care package for me when I arrived in my room, so I was able to freshen up. This was great after spending over 24 hours on a gurney in the ER hallway.
All that being said,
The emergency room is outdated, filthy, understaffed, and Ill equipped to deal with the amount of patients that come in there. They had no pillows, no rooms, and wait times were very long, due to how busy they were.
Both restrooms I used during my 24 hour stay in the ER were disgusting. There were feces on the toilet and walls of the one bathroom, and the other bathroom had pee all over the floor, and smelled horrible. Their janitorial department clearly has some issues.
My husband was at Henry Ford for a significant hospital stay on the Neurosurgery ICU floor I think it was, back in June. He was transferred from Sparrow. While most everyone was amazing, I have been calling and leaving MULTIPLE voicemails since the day after he got out of the hospital to try and reach a CASE MANAGER that should have been assigned to him before he was discharged. He did NOT see one before he left. He has required multiple therapies that we did not have help coordinating, I had to coordinate everything myself, the doctors at the hospital gave us a paper scripts with not a lot of guidance because obviously thatโs not what they do. He is still OFF work almost 5 months later because he cannot physically go back yet. He is STILL receiving the therapies. We had NO help with the after planning. I loved most everyone while we were there and his doctors were amazing but my husband is only 29 and we have two kids. I have had to pick up a 2nd job to support us. The least we deserved was for someone to help us navigate this horrible aftermath or give us some type of direction before he left or even have the decency to give us a phone call and apologize for someone dropping the ball.
Was told how GREAT this hospital was when my brother was sent here February 2023, he had a Kidney transplant and then his liver failed he was transferred here and it was THE WORST care I have ever seen . They sent and intern to talk us NO BIG doctors/ surgeons EVER talked to us . He was A1 status had 2 donors & they refused to try . Which makes NO sense b/c he was the sickest he deserved the try. I would NEVER recommend going to this hospital EVER
I want to say the nurses and doctors were great. They did their best to keep everyone comfortable and calm. But personally I would never choose this hospital.
My sister was admitted for an emergency and was in the trauma area. A very scary experience and I'm not from the area so not used to being treated like a criminal when going to a hospital.
Upon walking in and going through a metal detectors i had a lighter and a vape which were given back to me. The male security were just awful. The females asked if I was a patient or a visitor and were more understanding of my nervousness when not knowing the process.
You are only allowed 1 visitor but at first my mother and I were both allowed back. After a cigarette and walking back in I was told my lighter would be taken. I had to take it outside. Then only one of us was allowed back. Fair enough. I let my mom go back and while in the waiting room a family came in very distraught and a woman was begging to see her mother in critical condition as she didn't speak English. They were not allowing any family for this woman. Her son followed and tried to get through the doors. The incredibly rude receptionists said, "you're not coming in here telling us what to do!" And called security. This family was loud but they were just begging for them to let someone back. I literally cried and apologized to these people for how they were treated.
I did see a few homeless people kicked out of the waiting room looking for a place to sleep. So I'm sure they deal with difficult situations daily but when dealing with distressed families you should have some compassion.
I also saw security treating a doordash driver like garbage and not allowing her in and saying the food wasn't his problem.
They absolutely have a power trip and they are trash humans who shouldn't be in a hospital. I'm only talking about the males i encountered. I'm not saying they all are.
The facility and nurses and drs are great but security will treat you and your family awfully.
I have been a patient for about a year now and Henry Ford pride his self on its customer care. What I will say is they are really nice in person and over the phone and they return messages very quickly when you contact them through MyChart.
I will also say is they have consistently messed up my labs when I have taken them, causing me to retake them on multiple occasions. I have also received shots and antibiotics that were given to me by mistake. I donโt really get so much as a sorry after They just carry on like nothing is ever happened. So I would triple check when you are receiving the proper medicine and they are running the correct labs.
