My mom has been admitted for back pain. Her kidney was also in failure. They have been very strict with her diet which she hates but they are trying to protect her. They have brought her arts and crafts supplies. She has a lively view of The Hope Garden and clouds. They are very thorough with their testing. I am so grateful we went there.

UPDATE: Aftercare, zero Stay away GREAT STAFF AND DOCTORS, except for two people. Itโ€™s funny how two bad decisions by them, makes the whole experience suffer. As terrible as this experience was, there were people who tried their best to help. Dr Yeung was great, In Pre Op Danielle was very caring and helpful. Becky was great. Becky believed me, unlike Dr Berger, and two times tried to explain to Dr. Berger the situation. He wasnโ€™t going to listen. In post op, Joanne was absolutely AMAZING. But Faith takes the cake. She was my overnight nurse. She couldnโ€™t correct the cluster the coordinator had caused, Faith was great. Her actions, her care and her empathy were second to none. Kudos Faith. Morgan was my nurse from then on. She again, was amazing. Great staff, bad experience. I had surgery on August 21st that had been scheduled since June 2nd. No surprises. I was told to on June 2nd that I would be staying one night and n the hospital. I was told to be here at 11:30 for a 1:00 procedure. They took me back at 12. I totally understand how surgery times can be pushed back. Iโ€™m ok with that. Before I went back to the OR, Dr Berger ( anesthesiologist) talked to me in a very condescending manner. Told me that something that has ALWAYS been done, he says he canโ€™t do. He confused โ€œcanโ€™t โ€œ with โ€œwonโ€™tโ€. He looked at me and made a judgment and a decision before he said a word to me. He totally ignored the health issue I was experiencing. I can only go by my interaction. Dr. Berger may be a kind, caring, compassionate doctor. I will not attest to that. So I was taken back at 12 and it was 3 before I was taken to the OR. No worries about that. Things happen. I woke up around 5:15. They didnโ€™t take me to a โ€œroomโ€ until 10. It wasnโ€™t a hospital room. It was just like the room I had been n for the last 9 hours. It was a room with a sliding glass door with glass from the ceiling from top to bottom. No real wooden door to block out the football field lights. There was a curtain, but it was so short and see through and it it left a 2 foot gap at the bottom and uncovered and lights shining through like 5-O. The bed rail on one side was broken. Nothing worked on the call remote except the call button. The remote looked like it was from 1993. My wife was going to stay with me but she couldnโ€™t because there was no recliner. Just a sit up straight chair. This is obviously not a stay the night kind a of room. It was the equivalent of sleeping on someoneโ€™s couch. Itโ€™s like this room was filled with broken equipment and they decided since I had waited so long and the nurse coordinator didnโ€™t do their job very well at all. Th nurse coordinator finally realized I had waited 4 hours to be put in a room. So now they are mad because I made a totally reasonable request to be taken to a room. I didnโ€™t realize I needed to request a โ€œrealโ€ room and not a carport with a straight chair inside. Coordinator says fine. Put him in the messed up room. The one with a broken bed, no bathroom or recliner and a lot of malfunctioning equipment. Because the nurse coordinator screwed us over. I then had to send my wife to go get a room since there was not a recliner. She didnโ€™t get to stay the night with me like she had planned panned AND we had to spend more money for a hotel room because the nurse coordinator was playing on their phone or something. Since she was made to leave at 11:30 at night, she had to go to a very dark parking garage. She was followed by a man. She told him to stop. As soon as she started walking towards the elevator, he began following her again. She screamed and a good person heard he and he told the man to go away. The man left. Thank you Good Samaritan โค๏ธ As I was discharged the next morning, I informed the 4 security guards together. No concern. Smh This trip has been tough. We drove from Tallahassee this morning as well. This hospital is too big to treat people as individuals it seems. I was led to believe, by people around me, that Shands was the best hospital north of Ocala. I feel that would be a questionable statement

I have a combined surgery with Dr DZ with ENT, and Dr Decker, with Orthopedics to remove a tumor and do a spinal fusion with a corpectomy. UF Health Shands hospital is a huge facility that runs like a finely tune Ferrari. The staff is nothing short of amazing, and the 2 aforementioned doctors are the head of their respective fields/offices, and they are both fantastic. I highly recommend, 10/10 using Shands and these 2 docs if you need spine work or ENT work. I simply cannot say enough good about the facility and the staff and the doctors and their teams! They saved my life, and I'll never go anywhere else from now on if I ever need a major surgery again in the future! Absolutely phenomenal.

To all the staff doctors everyone you're the best, I had half of my right lung removed in April could not have had better care. My husband also was in the hospital for 8 days they were again the best. Ok the food they serve the patients could be better they differently need to hire better cooks. But the great care is better then good food.

DO NOT go to this hospital or its specialists if you are medically complex. I have met with General Surgery and Genetics, and both have told me straight lies to my face, over the phone, patient portal, etc. These doctors will tell you they are well educated with your condition/s, when in fact they're bluffing. They have wasted years of my time trying to get answers and surgery. And some, not all, of the faculty/nurses/medical counselors are full of it. If you have commonly researched/well known conditions/disorders, you may be treated kindly and properly. But I can promise you, if you're medically complex, these doctors don't care about anything more than a paycheck and to get you out of their office.
