We got here an hour after they open and there was already a crowd. That is always a good sign (good food). The fish was tasty, but it was not worth the hour wait. If you have somewhere else to be, I would estimate you would be at this place for at least 90 minutes to 2 hours if they are busy. I could not taste the difference between the red snapper and the other fish. The seasoning is very strong (but strong). This is why the different fish taste the same because the seasoning is the same. The Herring salad was surprisingly good. The restaurant seating is crammed together, which is the reason it only got four stars for the atmosphere. I would visit this place again just for the Herring salad.
I recently visited Hamido Seafood in Astoria, hoping to see what all the hype was about. Unfortunately, my experience didnโt quite live up to expectations.
The lines were incredibly long, and finding an available table was a challenge. The wait for food was also quite lengthy, which was disappointing.
When the food finally arrived, I wasnโt impressed with the flavors. Everything seemed to taste the same, lacking the distinctiveness I was hoping for. It felt very one-note.
The service was another letdown. It wasnโt up to the mark, which added to the overall disappointing experience.
In summary, while Hamido Seafood has a lot of buzz, my visit didnโt meet the expectations. The long wait times, lackluster flavors, and subpar service made it a less than stellar dining experience.
Way over hyped! Seafood was over cooked and lacking flavor. Atmosphere was good and, wait staff are attentive. Itโs BYOB so, do indulge! For me, itโs a โbeen there, done thatโ experience - not bad but, done need to go back.
Wow. The flavor will blow you away.
- Pick your own fish and squid for your meal
- Sides are about $6 each and fresh. Authentic Baba ganoush and plump pita.
- The mint lemonade is a must.
Everything here was delicious. Traditional chefs are in the kitchen, and the flavor unlike anything weโve had in the city
This is not worth the hype and definitely not traditional Egyptian food. To start, you pick your seafood then the style of cooking. The person collecting the seafood for cooking was quite pleasant and very patient with the customers explaining the various styles and even had great pictures to show. A hostess seats you and from there a waiter comes over and takes your order for sides. The wait decent for the dishes. I would recommend the mint lemonade if you have not tried it. Now, the food was not as flavorful and the swordfish was over cooked. The dish tasted more like can cube tomato with onions pored over the fish. I would also recommend asking cost since everything is by weight so as not to get sticker shock at the end. One king crab leg is approximately $170.
Instagram definitely helped to put this place on the map. This is a one time trial, and I would not return.
Peopleโฆโฆ!! Donโt believe the HYPEโฆ..!! Not worth the wait.
