Dr. Maya Bitar is a boardโcertified, fellowship trained ophthalmologist who specializes in diseases and surgery of the cornea, the front part of the eye, and in refractive surgery including LASIK. She treats a variety of conditions that can cause red eye ranging from dry eye syndrome to tumors. She has expertise in cataract surgery and in all types of cornea transplantations including latest micro-incision techniques like DMEK that allows patients with Fuchs dystrophy and other causes of corneal swelling to recover their vision in a couple of weeks.
Dr. Bitar serves as an associate professor of ophthalmology at George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences. She has published numerous peer-reviewed publications and she presented her work at national and international meetings. She is fluent in French and Arabic.

2 months agoDelay in being seen but there were many patients. No problem for me. Staff was knowledgeable and respectful. The doctor was thorough and addressed any concerns I raised.

2 months agoAlthough It took a fairly long time to get to see Dr. Bitar ( from early Feb until July 1) as was initially recommended by The ophtomology dept chair; I am very glad to have meet and discuss my lack of properly seeing with my right eye. She was extremely thorough and took time explaining the malfunctions and the cure. Presently ; I am scheduled to have a surgery/ procedure on Sept 12. .
