KAIS BOUZIDI  PROPRIETOR

ORIGINATED IN TUNISIA, IN NORTH AFRICA, Kais Bouzidi grew up in a family of restaurateurs and began his career in the restaurant industry in Paris, France.  After spending his formative years learning the inner workings of the family business from his father, Bouzidi moved from Paris to San Francisco at the age of 21.  Bouzidis drive and ambition allowed him to realize the possibility of running his own restaurant in 2006  he studied the San Francisco market, the location and the local food culture extensively, building the concept of what would ultimately become Sens Restaurant in October of 2007.  Having traveled throughout Southern Europe and Northern Africa, Bouzidi was inspired by the flavors and cultures of Mediterranean countries and cuisines. Born to a French mother and Tunisian father, Bouzidi brings the same blending of cultural influences to the menu and ambiance at Sens. With its wildly popular happy hour, seasonal Mediterranean fare, and gorgeous patio spaces with breathtaking views, Bouzidi has successfully established Sens as a dining destination on the Embarcadero.

Looking to establish a second location with a similar atmosphere and menu, but with a modern twist, Bouzidi has successfully launched his newest restaurant concept, Barcha, in the 425 Market Street Building and located at 28 Fremont. Having the perfect location to satisfy corporate clientele as well as locals and tourists alike, this Mediterranean bistro with Parisian influences offers delicious fair and a chic, yet welcoming smart casual ambiance.

Really nice place to share lots of small plates in a group! We came at 5pm and basically ordered all the things on the happy hour menu! We also got the spiced beef dumplings and branzino. The dumplings were the highlight of the meal but everything was pretty good. The branzino was a bit underwhelming though, we maybe would have rather gotten the steak or lamb.

Food was flavorful, but service was not that good. Drinks took FOREVER to come! Had to wait at least 20-30 minutes is to get the drinks and honestly the restaurant was not even that full. The servers also did not know who had ordered what drink, and we had to point them out after they call out each item. They also messed up the order a bit. We asked for the special Barcha Hummus, but they got us all Classic Hummus orders instead. Portion size was also very small for the price of the food. Appetizers came with 4 pieces each, and even entrees (especially salad) was very small. Shrimp Skewers were lovely. Nice flavor with a good spice to it! Zaatar flatbread was delicious - soft and warm and perfect hunt if za'atar. Arugula Salad (with shrimp, dressing on the side) - nice combination of ingredients, but the volume was very small. Shrimp were nice and crispy, but quite oily. People enjoyed the Beef Dumplings and Chicken & Specked Ham Croquettas. Falafel wrap and Chicken Shawarma wrap were also a hit. Lots of fries on the side for those, and good size wrap too. Chicken shawarma plate with rice seemed to have very little quantity of chicken too. It was not supremely flavorful but just the right amount of flavor from that rice and chicken together. Hummus was good, but we really wanted that special Barcha Hummus so kinda sad there.

Wonderful caring staff, great food, reasonably priced, and lovely decor. They also let you sit for as long as you like. My only adjustment would be to change up the music. It's not so bad that it's loud, which it is, but it's just kind of annoying.

Came here on Valentine’s Day and was very underwhelmed. It took them a little over 2 hours to get through their 3 corse dinner, and it seemed we could not get service at all. The food was decent, but nothing I would particularly seek out. Especially due to the fact I waisted my valentines evening waiting for our food to come out. Overall, very disappointed. I thought they would have wanted to do better on a valentines evening dinner.

The food, (the sahdig is their signature dish and absolutely terrific w/braised duck leg that melts off the bone ), the atmosphere, and the service from Mark, Dino , Alan, and the GM, Constantino, are second to none. This is definitely a MUST visit restaurant and experience when you’re in SF! — Nick
