Canal Bistro is the realization of a dream for the owners. Originally from Egypt and Lebanon, they know Mediterranean cooking. The owners have been in the restaurant business for 22 years along with gaining experience from watching their mothers and grandmothers cook for their big families from their own herb and vegetable gardens, learning the value of freshness in cooking.
We specialize in gyros, kabobs and lamb dishes. As well as lighter dishes of hummus and baba ganoush etc. We also have homemade baklava.

6 months agoThe scenery was stunning and the venue was conveniently situated near the Monon Canal. Despite ongoing construction in the vicinity, the neighboring businesses effectively managed to maintain available parking spaces. I opted for the baklava sundae, which was overall delicious, although I found the addition of peanuts to be less appealing compared to the traditional pistachio baklava. The service was excellent, however, the limited seating made it challenging to enjoy the generous portion size comfortably.

6 months agoWonderful place for an outdoor meal! This place is well run and it shows. Every time we go our experience is the same. Great employees make it hum. Go here.

a year agoCanal Bistro is a joint Iโve never eaten at, but last night, I got to make the visit. Arriving at around 6 PM, they werenโt too busy but gradually got busier throughout our time there. Our waiter was cool and attentive to us, and gave good suggestions on the menu. The outdoor patio was very nice and gave good views of the canal. I ordered the classic Gyro sandwich with fries as my entree. And overall, it was just okay. The Gyro meat was tender and seasoned well but the pita bread was quite soggy and didnโt hold together well. The fries were also pretty bland. For $16, it was just average. Overall, this was an okay experience. Will I return? Maybe. Might give the Mediterranean Beef Burger a shot next time since it looked good!

6 months agoThis is a very quaint looking restaurant located on Guilford Ave., along the IWC towpath. They have indoor and outdoor seating with plenty of options to suit a party of any size. We were eager to try this place, it seemed to get decent reviews and it was someplace new for us. Service was fairly quick and we were soon greeted with table side bread with olive oil and pesto. We started out with two appetizers, fried calamari and the garlic feta fries. The Calamari wasnโt bad the, garlic fries were just ok. For our entrees we chose for myself the Gyros platter-Gryo meat served with rice, feta cheese and a sauce. Comes with side salad. The Wife decided upon the Shawarma Platter-marinated and finely sliced beef and chicken. Served with tahini and garlic sauce, with a side salad. The only thing that was passing was the Calamari and Iโve had better elsewhere. The bread and pesto was tasteless other than oil and the bread a dud. Salads tasted like they had no dressing, just spritzed with water. The Entrees were also bland. We left food uneaten on every plate. The best way to describe this place is in two words underwhelming and disappointing.

6 months agoMy favorite brunch spot for about 8 years now. The owner is always there helping out. They opened a new ice cream shop next door. It was hard to save room for dessert, but we did. The brownie sundae was chef's kiss and it was also HUGE. Definitely big enough for multiple people to share. I didn't get a picture pf our breakfast but I did get the sundae.
