Dr. Shabaik is Clinical Professor of Pathology. He received his Medical Degree from The Cairo University Faculty of Medicine in Egypt. After finishing a year of rotating internship, Dr. Shabaik moved to the United States where he finished a year of straight surgical internship and AP/CP pathology residency training. Following residency Dr. Shabaik was a Fellow in Anatomic Pathology at St. John Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis and then a Fellow in Cytopathology at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute of the University of South Florida in Tampa. He is certified by the American Board of Pathology in AP, CP and Cytopathology. Dr. Shabaik was Assistant Professor of Pathology at the University of South Florida before he joined UCSD in 1992.
Dr. Shabaik’s areas of expertise are male genitourinary pathology and fine needle aspiration biopsy performance and interpretation. In addition to his clinical duties, Dr. Shabaik teaches pathology residents, urology residents, and medical students. He is the recipient of the “Best Anatomic Pathology Teacher” award for 2002 and 2010. Dr. Shabaik’s areas of research interest include male genitourinary pathology and pathology of fine needle aspiration biopsy.
Dr. Shabaik is member of many professional organization including United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP), International Society of Urologic Pathology (ISUP), the American Society of Cytopathology (ASC), American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), and College of American Pathologists (CAP).
