Dr. Basem Hamid is trained and board-certified in neurology and pain medicine. He comes from The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, where he served as an assistant professor and the director of the pain fellowship program at the department of pain medicine.
Dr. Hamid received his medical degree at the Damascus University of School of Medicine. His post graduate training included an internship at Mount Sainai University in New York City, residency in internal medicine/neurology at West Virginia University where he was chief resident in neurology as well as a pain medicine fellowship at The University of Iowa.
Dr. Hamid was an assistant professor of Neurology and Anesthesiology at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. He has been a principle investigator in numerous studies related to pain care, particularly the management of neuropathic and cancer pain. He has published several articles related to pain and is the author of multiple book chapters on different pain-related topics. He has served as a reviewer for Spine, The Journal of Pain, and other publications. He is a member of the โPhysicians Council for Responsible Reformโ and many other distinguished national and international health organizations. Dr. Hamid had a prominent active role in educating patients and health care providers on a national and international level and delivered numerous lectures and workshops in the field.
