Dr. Yasir Al-Abboodi, MD is a gastroenterologist in Austin, TX and has over 18 years of experience in the medical field. He graduated from University of Baghdad College of Medicine in 2005. He is affiliated with Northwest Hills Surgical Hospital. He is accepting telehealth appointments.
I recently accompanied a friend to an appointment in which Dr. Yasir Al-Abboodi was to exchange a leaking gastric tube in the office. My friend told me that at one point a staff member in Dr Al-Abboodiโs office reached out to her stating that my friend, the patient, needed to order the gastric tube. This is a bizarre request of a layperson. The medical personnel in a medical office should procure the supplies for a medical procedure. As it was, it took several weeks for Dr. Al-Abboodiโs office to obtain the gastric tube and the appointment was finally scheduled, all the while this patient had a clamp on her g-tube to prevent it from leaking. At the appointment, Dr. Al-Abboodi entered the room, told my friend/the patient that it would hurt and then pulled out her existing gastric tube (her only source of oral intake and medications) without even local anesthesia. He then began to attempt to insert the new feeding tube, which we ultimately discovered was bigger than the tube that had been in place. (The patient had a 20 French in place, which Dr. Al-Abboodi removed, and he was attempting to force a 22 French into the stoma.) My friend/the patient was in tears and multiple 4X4โs were soaked in blood as Dr. Al-Abboodi continued to try to force a 22 French g-tube into a stoma where a 20 French g-tube had just been removed. He was extraordinarily unfeeling and unsympathetic to the amount of pain that my friend endured during this ordeal. Ultimately, Dr. Al-Abboodi suggested maybe we could get a gastric tube insertion scheduled with radiology in the next day or two. I made it very clear that this was unacceptable given that her g-tube is the only way for her to consume fluids, nutrition or medications. Dr. Al-Abboodi ended up on the phone with the ER because I stated that we werenโt leaving the exam room until we had a plan to have gastric tube access. We ended up at a local hospital being admitted through the ER so that interventional radiology could insert the gastric tube. The one moment of clarity in the entire visit with Dr. Al-Abboodi was when he admitted to my friend/the patient that he should have had other sizes of gastric tubes on hand (like the size of the one he was replacingโฆ a 20 gauge). This is absolutely egregious behavior on the part of any medical professional. NEVER see this physician!!

I saw Dr. Al-Abboodi today and despite the negative reviews, found him to be polite, knowledgeable, willing to listen to my symptoms and developed what seems like a good diagnosis/plan for treatment. He also made sure I didn't have any further questions before he left. I would gladly see him again if my condition doesn't improve after the treatment plan.
What an awful doctor! I have been experiencing pain, nausea, and vomiting from what I am sure is a perforated ulcer. The doctor rushed in and out, didn't listen to a word I said, and left me without adequate care. I am scared for my health and wasn't treated properly.
My experience with doctor wasn't good. He came in and didn't speak a word, listened to what I had to say and didn't recommend anything. He just insisted that I need to take medicines and do a colonoscopy but he had no concern about my situation or even my discussions.

3 months agoI was a bit leery of Dr. Al-Aboodi from all the negative reviews but my experience with him was contrary to all the bad reviews. He was just fine!
