Hiba Benny joined Buono Law Group in February 2020 as an associate attorney. Previously, Ms. Benny practiced Family Law at the Law & Mediation Firm of Klueck & Hoppes after earning her Juris Doctor from Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego, California. Ms. Benny graduated Cum Laude from Thomas Jefferson School of Law and earned the High-Grade Award in California Civil Procedure. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from San Diego State University. Ms. Benny moved to the United States in 1991 from Baghdad, Iraq. Ms. Benny is fluent in the Arabic language and can assist clients with translating legal documents.
During her law school career, Ms. Benny was a certified legal intern with the San Diego District Attorney’s Office where she wrote several opposition to motions to suppress and argued those in front of Superior Court Judges. Ms. Benny also interned in the Gangs Unit at the District Attorney’s Office during her last semester of law school. During her undergraduate career, Ms. Benny interned at the San Diego Public Defender’s Office with the Investigations Unit, where she was tasked with serving subpoenas, interviewing witnesses, and provided bilingual Arabic translations for investigators.
In addition to her internships, Ms. Benny was a competitor with the Thomas Jefferson School of Law National Trial Team. She has competed in five trial competitions including the San Diego Defense Lawyers Competition, the South Texas Mock Trial Competition, the National Criminal Trial Advocacy Competition, and the Texas Young Lawyers Association National Competition.
