Mesquite Islamic Center (MIC) is a non-profit organization of Muslims dedicated to worship, education, and community service in the Mesquite, Texas area.
Very nice Masjid, the leadership is very welcoming. Good place to bring kids to know about their religion. The youth director is involved with youth programs.
Asalaam walaykum. First I want to say that my experience there has not been completely bad. But there are some things that don't sit well with me. Firstly, I was facing a financial crisis and a sister there was very nice and gave me an application for financial assistance. She said I could possibly get a response in 2 weeks, I've heard nothing and it's been way over two weeks.
I called once to speak to someone in the office and no one answered so I transferred to the Imam. I told him my situation and his response was "Well I don't handle that stuff, you'll have to call the office. I'll say a special prayer for you." The prayer part was nice, but I was really surprised when he said I don't handle that stuff. By the way he was speaking, he obviously assumed I didn't know that. He could probably tell that I was a black woman and assumed I didn't know what an Imam does.. Even though I clearly gave him the Muslim greeting of peace.. And when we got off the phone, he didn't even give the greeting. Like I said, I think he assumed I wasn't Muslim. Something just didn't sit well with me with the way he was talking to me. Idk, maybe it's just me but it didn't feel right. There is a reason that there isn't much diversity there. We can't ALL be making up this unwelcoming feeling.. Also, I don't like the fact that there are cameras in the sisters area. I've never seen that at a mosque. I think it is an invasion of the sister's privacy. A mosque should have trust, cameras are not necessary in my opinion. The bathrooms are really nice but every time I've gone in the stall, it smells kind of funny and you can tell they don't do much deep cleaning, just light cleaning. I think they need to do better with cleaning the stalls. Looks good but smells funny. One thing I hate is a smelly bathroom. This is a place of prayer and it should not smell like that every time I go in there. I just tried to apply for a loan on their page and it has interest rates.. Anyway, I wish no ill will towards other Muslims. May Allah correct all of our flaws and allow us Jannah. I was just speaking my honest opinion. Asalaam walaykum

a week agoNicely constructed masjid, but parking is big issue. If they can put signs on where to park, it would make it so much easier for new people.
