Omarโs Mediterranean Cuisine attracts patrons by the scent of chicken shawarma roasting on two massive spits. Served with housemade sauces: garlic mayo, tahini and a bright orange hot sauce.
Egyptian native Omar Abouzaid has had several successful New York careers since he moved to the US in the late 70s.Started in a Middle Eastern restaurant, he later ran a bakery in Queens until he came to co-own a Manhattan catering company.

in the last weekTitle: A Midtown Gem for Halal Food Lovers! Review: While holiday shopping in Midtown Manhattan, I stumbled upon Omar's Mediterranean Cuisine near Grand Central, and what a find it was! The restaurant boasts a clean, spacious seating area, perfect for a cozy yet bustling Midtown experience. I was lucky to snag a table by the store window, where I could enjoy the sights of passersby while savoring some truly delightful dishes. The meal was a feast for the senses. I started with a comforting chicken noodle soup, followed by Omar's Signature dishโan impressive medley of mixed grilled meats, including chicken shawarma, chicken kebob, and lamb kofta, served with fragrant rice and a refreshing Eggplant Turkish Salad. Everything was cooked to perfection and packed with flavor. I also picked up a chicken kebab sandwich for my wife, and she couldn't stop raving about it. As a thoughtful touch, the staff added a Mediterranean pastry to the order, which was a delightful surprise for us both. Good food, excellent service, and a prime locationโOmar's is a true Midtown gem. I'll be returning soon!

6 months agoWe stumbled upon this place last year when we wanted to grab a quick bite since we had to rush to another place. It took us by surprise how amazing this was! You can tell that they are an old establishment. The food here is by far the best middle eastern I have had considering I am vegetarian. We always get the falafel platter to go but decided to dine in this time! They serve pita at the start, which was super soft & warm. I love everything about this place. It's food, & their hospitality. It's definitely special!

3 months agoEverything was great except the food was a bit too salty ๐ง, plus they charge you additional if you use a credit card. Who does that nowadays? Complementary baklava was delicious

7 months agoMy wife and I stopped in for an early lunch just after the place opened at 11. The first thing that hit me was the wonderful aromas even before we made it through the door. Although there is an option for takeout we decided to sit inside and dine. The waiter greeted us promptly and got us some drinks. The menu is extensive and picking just one item is really hard we decided to get the special and some baba ganoush to enjoy while we waited. The food arrived quickly, it was hot and delicious. So many wonderful flavors all mixed together made for a delicious meal. The wait staff was very attentive and kept our drinks full and made sure we had everything we needed. We even got a nice surprise at the end of the meal when they brought us a couple of pieces of baklava which were absolutely delicious and tasted like they were dipped in butter. My wife and I had a wonderful meal and will definitely recommend it to anybody who asks and we should visit again.

5 months agoTook falafel and chicken, salad and humus to go. Amazing place with delicious food and service. Came for first time and definitely will come back! The first reason is service, especially thank you to man who prepared food (July 10th) (forgot his name, but will remember his kind attitude), and second reason is fresh and tasty food (and small bakhlava as a compliment is amazing) Also, they have a good location, so you can take food to go and walk a little bit to Bryant Park and enjoy the library and city view.
