Our son came for surgery in June 2023 and the doctor in urology did an excellent job. While in recovery, Nurse Jackie was very incompetent and caused undue pain because she was not educated on post op care and procedure. My son was crying and screaming for over 30 min and all she kept saying was it’s all in his head. He’s 5 and is competent enough to know when he’s in pain. Finally another nurse came over and assisted us to FINALLY give my son and the relief from his VERY REAL pain from the surgery. I spoke to the Nurse Manager a few days later who apologized said she would speak with the director and get back to me. I never heard anything back and this traumatizing situation still haunts me to this day. The hurt and pain in my sons cries, screaming in recovery hurts my heart and to know it was 100% avoidable makes it that much worse. Avoid Nurse Jackie in urology at all costs. In fact, just find another hospital to do the surgery to avoid the possibility of encountering her. It’s sad that one person can make such a huge impact on an organization but she can not be trusted with post op care.

The clinicians at Children’s are amazing, and they go above and beyond every day. But they do not have adequate administrative support. Kids like mine in complex care with multiple specialists need assistance with coordination of care. Children’s needs to prioritize this to give their incredible clinicians the support they deserve, and to give parents of patients some relief.

10 hours. just to tell us to hydrate. but that’s not why it’s 1 star. they took forever to check her ear. never seen a dr take that long just to look for an ear infection. then they said “quick in and out” for a catheter urine sample. ending with continuous stabs inside the urine place with no success. ended up using a bag and she peed in just 5 seconds. all this within a span of 6 hours. how hard was it to swab her, get a urine sample, and check her ears all at once so the patients outside could get a room too.

    1. My daughter just had surgery with Dr. Joseph Letzelter and I have nothing but positive things to say about the surgeon himself. He was great and answered all my questions in regards to my daughters surgery + recovery. I was always 100% confident that my daughter was in amazing hands. Only negative thing is that his surgery coordinator is a HEADACHE to get ahold of. Nice lady but wow. She is so hard to get ahold of. Ultimately I had to reach to my baby's PCP to reach out to them and then I finally was able to hear from them. 2. In regards to the staff of the hospital, everyone seems to be really rude. They make you feel like you are a disturbance even being there - you all do realize this is the last place a parent wants to be in right?? Anyways, from the security check in people to the front desk staff all rude and short. 3. Hospital cleanliness is pretty bad. The hospital smells like straight weed. Bathrooms were a nasty mess too.

I was sigh my baby and the doctors were really kind with me, always brought an Interpreter for me and they understood that I need to get all the info in my mother tongue! If you breastfeed your baby you have one Boucher for free food, and in the day there are people that give you all that you need. (Shampoo, chargers, toothpaste, etc)
