Who could’ve guessed it? How could we have known back in 2013 when we launched Fava Pot that Food Network would eventually vote us one of “America’s 26 Best Food Trucks”  —  or that in four short years we would turn that successful food truck business into an even more successful brick-and-mortar restaurant?

From the beginning, we kept our eyes on the prize; serving the best of healthy, home-style Egyptian cuisine in an atmosphere that would make our customers feel like they were amongst a family. We do this by sourcing high-quality ingredients to cook our authentic meals. That means serving locally sourced foods such as chicken and game hens that are antibiotic-free and succulent meats that are grass-fed. And we responded by providing what more and more of our customers were asking for; delicious vegetarian and gluten-free options.

And we never sacrifice on value. That means our signature falafel is made entirely from scratch – no powders or premade doughs. And those famed fava beans? We slow-cook them for 12 hours in special spices.

When I left Egypt in 2004, I kept my beloved homeland and its distinctive home cooking at heart. Back then I could not find a restaurant in DC that offered Egyptian food. The Fava Pot dream has come true and I am so grateful to our partners, my team – and most especially our customers – for making it possible for us to serve you a distinctive Egyptian experience!

Fantastic place to try Egyptian food. Amazing experience! They’re masters of hospitality and the food tasted fresh and flavorful. The restaurant had lovely ambience, and the owner Dina was super welcoming and puts a lot of love and care into her business. I really liked the kofta sandwich; it was large portions and really tasty. I’ll be back!

I am writing this review 3 weeks later, so I cannot recall all of the delicious flavors of the food ... but, the owner (?) was fantastic, the cuisine was distinct from the more typical (in the US) Lebanese style, and everything was thoroughly enjoyed. I can distinctly remember the pomegranates and lime of the baba ganoush and the fava bean flavor of the falafel. My dish was complex and delicious but more specific details elude me. You'll just have to try it for yourself. My mother, who had not been to Egypt since the 70s, also loved it. It was more upscale than the food she had as a student.

Before I speak on the food I want to mention that my passion is cooking and I’ve developed an incredible culinary talent. I know the challenge of elevating food without sacrificing authenticity. I was both born in Egypt and grew up eating Egyptian food. I heard of this place called fava pot. I took my parents during a visit and even brought my grandma who was visiting from Egypt. Let me get started on the food. First of all don’t let the price point frighten you. It’s worth every penny and the portion size is gigantic and you will likely have a ton of left overs. We ordered the fava beans and the garlic pickled eggplant. The fava beans were incredibly authentic and reminded me exactly of the dish I’d have in Egypt. the olives in the eggplant elevated the dish by adding an incredible crunch and the eggplant they used was crisp not soggy. This dish was a big winner. I’ve eaten macaroni bechamel almost every holiday for the last 30 years but the dish they serve here was truly special. It was not oily the ground beef was very crispy and the bechamel sauce was executed to perfection. We got the macaroni bechamel with the chicken kofta which was a huge crowd favorite. I also had the koshary, molokhia a and falafel. And the authenticity of the dishes truly brought me to home. The lamb was sooo fresh and incredibly flavorful. One of my favorite items is the iced hibiscus tea. I would come back just for that. I can talk about this restaurant for hours because Dina the owner truly built herself the most excellent example of elevated Egyptian cuisine without sacrificing any authenticity. I go to Egypt at least twice a year and this restaurant can compete with any restaurant from my mother land. If you want a truly Egyptian experience come to Fava pot. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

It was hands down one of the best restaurants I have ever been to! Our hostess was friendly, knowledgeable, and anticipated our every need. The food was beyond amazing, and I will make it a point to come eat there whenever I visit my friend! I wish we had a restaurant like this in New Jersey!!
