Training For A Retina Specialist
Dr Kawjiย attended the University of Texas Health Science Centerย in Houston for his Internal Medicine training. Next, he joined the team at Doheny Eye Institute & the University of Southern California (USC) for a clinical research fellowship in Ophthalmology. Subsequently, he was granted a residency in Ophthalmology at the prestigious Indiana University program, one of the largest training programs in the country.
This was followed by a 2-year fellowship in Retina & Vitreous Surgery at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, where he worked with renowned ophthalmologists andย retina surgeons and gained extensive experience in medical and surgical retina. Then, Dr Kawji returned to Southern California where he has been in private practice since 2013.
Dr. Kawji is the only retina specialist in Orange County who is double board-certifiedย in Ophthalmology & Internal Medicine. This unique combination enables him to have a better understanding of the overall health of his patients and how different systemic diseases interact with eye health.
Teaches Eye Doctors
Dr. Kawji has given numerous educational presentations and has lectured nationally at scientific meetings and conferences. He has also contributed to various publications on diverse ophthalmic subjects.
Dr. Kawji is well-known among his peers for his advanced surgical skills andย has performed thousands of major and minor retina surgeries with excellent results.ย In addition, he hasย participated in multiple research trials involving new drugs to treat age-related macular degeneration, diabetic macular edema, & retinal vein occlusion.

a month agoI met Dr Kawji at a private event and didn't hesitate to ask him about my daughter's recent injury where I needed a second opinion and was so worried about my 10 year old eye. I consider myself blessed to have him look at my daughters eye and did whatever needed to be done at his clinic. He reassured me that my daughter doesn't have retina detachment and she only need a surgery to remove an eye hemorrhage after she got hit in the eye with something sharp. 6 months agoGreeted with warm welcome, completion of my information was fast & efficient. After a brief wait the Techinician greeted and explained the proceedures he would be performing. Answered my many questions with kindness & patience. Brief wait to meet Dr who was professional in his warm greeting, exams & again very patient answering my many questions. Dr put me at ease, scheduled a f/up appointment, advised if I had questions or concerns before next appt to call any time. Thanked me for my trust in his care. Would definitely recommend.
