Yemen Cuisine is the national cuisine of Yemen. Largely distinct from the more widely known Middle Eastern cuisines, it is unique and coherent, if characterized by a degree of regional variation. Although some foreign influences are evident in some regions of the country

5 months agoYemen Kitchen is a hidden gem in the Tenderloin district. Arriving for Saturday lunch, we were greeted warmly by the owner/chef, who promptly started cooking after we placed our orders. The highlight of our meal was the roasted lamb - tender, succulent, and bursting with flavor. Served with spiced rice, a light salad, and stewed veggies, it was more than enough for two. We happily took the leftovers home for later. The stir-fry beef over hummus was a delightful fusion of flavors and textures. The beef was impeccably cooked, tender and juicy, while the housemade sauce on the side added a subtle kick without overwhelming the palate. The soft Tawa bread was perfect for sopping up the rich flavors of the lentil soup and hummus. The Yemeni chai and Basbousa semolina cake) completed a truly satisfying meal. With prices so reasonable, it's clear that this is a place that values both quality and affordability. Places like this, with their resilience surviving through COVID and skillful culinary abilities, remind me why San Francisco is such a great city. Hidden gems are to be discovered if you are adventurous. Don't forget to support local small businesses like Yemen Kitchen to help the local community in the city.

4 months agoIn my opinion this is the best hidden culinary gem in San Francisco. Owners and staff are absolutely the kindest people. The food is proper authentic Yemeni cuisine. Everything is amazing but my go to is the Saltah and Yemeni bread with a side of hot sauce (think fresh salsa). Donโt miss out on anything with lamb. Space is tight but always seem to strike up nice conversation with fellow Diners. This place is well worth a visit if youโre in the area of Market or Union Square. Space is no frills with endearing photos of the ownerโs past soccer teams with beautiful arabic music playing in the background. This is food made with love.

4 months agoIt was my first time trying Yemeni food and I LOVED IT. My friend and I had the roasted lamb and the saltah - both dishes were 10/10. The chef was really welcoming and friendly too! Will definitely go back โญ๏ธ

3 months agoDirty menu, dirty table and the sign outside is another indication that the atmosphere has issues. The people were so friendly however. Food was good but not so special. Falafel was plain, salad was nothing special. Goat stew was too spicy.

10 months agoThis is that type of 10/10 hole in the wall restaurant. Itโs not in the best neighborhood, but the quality of the food is much better than most established middle eastern restaurants, and you can tell the food is made with love. Plus, Yemeni cuisine is also super unique compare to other middle eastern food! I encourage everybody to give it a try!
