I was born in Canada, grew up in Southern California, and spent 10 years on the East Coast at the George Washington University Medical Center. That’s where I went to medical school, internal medicine residency, and a Fellowship in Hematology and Medical Oncology. I came back to L.A. to be with my family and am currently practicing hematology/oncology at the Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center.
Our experience at Kaiser Los Angeles Hospital was extremely disappointing and stressful. My dad was hospitalized for six days, during which he didnโt receive the medically required thickener for his water, nor the proper minced and moist diet. We had to repeatedly ask three times a day, every day, for the full duration of his stay to get the thickener he needs to avoid choking or aspiration. This requirement was clearly documented by speech pathologists and doctors across numerous swallow studies, yet food services continuously failed to deliver.
The charge nurse and the ombudsman got involved, and despite their best efforts, food services repeatedly ignored these documented needs. When the food service manager got involved, we were told they donโt โfollow patients' preferences.โ Let me be clear: this is not a preference; itโs a medical necessity.
Furthermore, seeing a doctor required constant family intervention. Only Physician Assistants (PAs) came to the bedside, but they had to keep returning to โthe teamโ for consultations, leaving us with limited answers and a lack of direct care. Over the weekend, essential services like physical therapy (PT), occupational therapy (OT), and even doctor visits were practically non-existent, resulting in three wasted days in the hospital as my dad waited for care for his fracture.
I want to be clear that the nurses were absolutely amazing. They, along with the charge nurse and the ombudsman, went above and beyond for our family and were the one positive part of this experience. However, weโve never encountered a more frustrating hospital stay. We should never have had to fight daily for something as critical as thickener, nor wait hours for it each time.
Kaiser West LA Hospital, in contrast, has not failed us in getting the thickener or the services my dad needs. Their doctors, specialists, and therapists make regular rounds, PT and OT are consistent, and we have no issues with dietary needs being met. Unfortunately, Kaiser Los Angeles failed us in these crucial aspects of care.
I needed to go to urgent care to take care of a personal issue. We checked in and were seen in about 30 minutes as patients were light at 4:00pm. The RN who took my vitals was friendly and knowledgeable. Dr. Daniel Vargas was caring, and explained everything he would need to do, answering all my questions. Two other nurses helped with a procedure and were skilled. It was a satisfying visit and I was glad I went.
I went in to ED on 2 diff mornings and the Emergency room is very good. Wait times are not long. On the 3rd day they admitted me with Pneumonia. The hospital is comfortable, modern and very clean. The food service is very good. The nurses are professional. The doctors are kind and personable.
I had a tricky operation done on Tuesday. I had cancer going in and hopefully I do not have it anymore. I was treated with dignity and respect. The pain was almost intolerable but the staff was patient with me. They took good care of me and made sure I got home safely. God bless every one of the people that was involved with my case
with my case.
Amaghi has made my life a living hell. I came in with pneumonia and she kept accusing me of taking drugs and I had to correct her 3 times that I came in because I was roofied. itโs almost like she was trying to embarrass me
then everytime I asked if I was gonna be ok, she would smile and not say anything and walk away for hours.
yelling at me because i kept trying to find another nurse, she kept ridiculing me. saying โyou know they are all just going to come to meโ and got mad at me for puking, and having to pee???? and her not responding?????
she is NOT fit to be a nurse. she is heartless, no compassion.
ridiculing her patients. getting upset whenever I-needed anything . rolling her eyes when i needed water, gossiping ajout me to everyone else. I will NEVER come back to this hospital because of her. iโm traumatizsed. just for asking for help :(
