Dr. Rim ElChaki is a pediatric nephrologist who cares for patients with conditions that involve or affect the kidneys, including high blood pressure, hematuria (blood in urine), proteinuria (excess protein in urine), kidney stones, and birth defects of the kidneys or urinary tract. She manages hospitalized patients on dialysis, whether for acute or chronic kidney problems, and cares for kidney transplant patients. She is especially interested in providing general nephrology care in the community and preventing the progression of chronic kidney disease.
ElChaki’s care philosophy focuses on treating patients as individuals and using safe, proven treatments. She seeks to ensure her patients and their families completely understand their care plans, working to foster strong patient-doctor relationships.
In research, ElChaki has studied how Envarsus (an extended-release form of the immunosuppressant tacrolimus) improves medication compliance and quality of life in adolescents with a kidney transplant. She also has studied chronic kidney disease in liver transplant patients, looking at risk factors and incidence.
ElChaki earned her medical degree at Weill Cornell Medicine โ Qatar. She completed her residency in pediatrics at University at Buffalo and a fellowship in pediatric nephrology at UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital.
Outside of work, ElChaki enjoys spending time with her husband and son, as well as hiking, exercising, reading, trying new food and traveling.
